to carry a stack of 12 books down the stairs from the loft and even harder to make it from there down the spiral staircase.
I had this discussion with a girl of about 12 and I suggested that she wait for her mother where she was.
She opted to brave the stairs ... on the way down at least.
She and her mother then came up the stairs, exited the shop without buying anything, and left all 12 books downstairs.
At least they were easy to find when I went to retrieve them.
